Anton Pavlovitch Chekov ( 1860-1904 ) was a great Russian short story writer & playwright. The present story deals with the progressive understanding of a man about life & we can clearly note the twin elements of sympathy and irony.
A priori: presumptive ; based on theory instead of experience or experiment
The caprice of a pampered man: the whim of a man who is given to excessive gratification of his desires
The gospel: the teachings of Jesus as found in any of the first four books of the New Testament, ascribed to Matthew, Mark , Luke & John
Greenhouse: glass house with artificially controlled temperature for growing delicate or out of season plants
Elburz: mountains in Iran
Mont Blanc: the highest peak in the Alps
